Research
(Bioinstrumentation Engineering Analysis and Microscopy - BEAM)
Dr. So is a professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Division of Biological Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). His research focuses on developing microscopic imaging instruments for high-resolution and high-information content. These instruments are applied in biomedical studies such as the non-invasive optical biopsy of cancer, the mechanotransduction processes in cardiovascular diseases, and the effects of neuronal remodeling on memory plasticity.
Education and experience
Dr. So obtained a doctorate in Physics from Princeton University in 1992, and subsequently worked as a postdoctoral associate in the Laboratory for Fluorescence Dynamics in the University of Illinois in Urban-Champaign. He has been a faculty member in the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Bioengineering at MIT since 1996.
